Breezy Hill Inn

Breezy Hill, NY

Ever dream of running a country inn? So did the retired banker who bought this abandoned Victorian farmhouse. The property had great bones, and we gave it a full makeover. First we lifted the whole structure to build a watertight basement with a billiards room, workout room, spa, and entertainment center. We restored the vintage paneled stairwell and added a first-floor bedroom suite, a Tuscan-inflected kitchen roomy enough to cater a wedding, a family-style dining room, media room and library.

Upstairs are four bedroom suites, each with mountain views. Even the attic got a facelift, and now serves as an art studio. The final touch was a wraparound porch treatment with a fully screened octagonal section and an open rocking-chair porch overlooking Bellayre ski resort.

This project was a true collaboration. Local artisans did a superb job with decorative exterior trim and Arts and Crafts details throughout, and the owners' daughter, a design professional, brought a great eye and artistic flair to the interiors.
